Don't let them LEGALIZE the OUTSOURCING of TORTURE
Dennis Hastert (R-Fucktard) has introduced legislation that would legalize the outsourcing of torture. H.R.10 sections 3031 & 3032 inserts language that would allow the US Government to deport "terrorist suspects" to countries that practice torture. Attached to the "9/11 Recommendations Implementation Act", this language would:
- Instruct the Secretary of Homeland Security to enact regulations that bypass the Convention Against Torture
- Put the burden of proof on the person being deported to establish "by clear and convincing evidence that he or she would be tortured."
- Bar the courts from having jurisdiction to review the Secretary's regulations.
- Allow Homeland Security to deport terrorist suspects to any country in the world at will - even countries other than the person's home country or the country in which they were born.
Edward Markey (D-MA) is going to introduce a bill (.pdf viewable here) that would prevent Hastert and his rightard goose-steppers from making torture a legal part of US foreign policy.
Write your Congressman! Markey's bid to prevent the legalization of torture will begin next week, so it is vital that you write your Representative now. Go here to find your Representative and to send them an email. Urge them to support Markey's bill, to forbid the outsourcing of torture.
